Balloons lift off just after dawn from the plains outside Marrakech and fly for 40 to 60 minutes. With no engine, you move at the speed of the breeze and can hear the villages below. Within minutes you are over olive terraces, dry riverbeds and clusters of mudbrick houses, with the High Atlas catching the first light on the horizon.
The flight is only part of it. The morning starts in the dark with a pickup from your riad, a short drive to the launch field and the slow inflation of the envelope. After landing comes breakfast in a tent or garden, often msemen, honey, fresh bread and mint tea. Many operators hand you a signed flight certificate, and some add a camel ride or quad loop.

All flights launch at sunrise, when the air is calm and cool. That means a very early start: pickup is usually between 5:00 and 6:30 depending on the season. The whole experience runs about four hours door to door, so you are typically back at your hotel by mid-morning.
The flight itself lasts roughly 40 to 60 minutes, though the exact duration depends on wind and weather on the day. The rest of the time covers the transfer, inflation, the post-flight breakfast and the drive back. Pilots put a safe, smooth flight ahead of an exact number of minutes.
