The drive & arrival tips
The drive into Essaouira takes 15–25 minutes along the coast to the medina gates and the beach hotels. The walled medina is pedestrian-only, so your driver drops you at the nearest gate — usually Bab Marrakech or Bab Doukkala — a short, flat walk from most riads.
Your driver meets you in the small Mogador arrivals hall. The honest issue here is supply: with so few flights, the taxi rank is often empty when a plane lands, and a fixed transfer is genuinely the difference between leaving immediately and hoping a car turns up.
When a taxi is waiting it runs roughly 150–200 MAD into town, similar to our sedan, but you cannot count on one being there. That reliability — plus a driver who knows which gate serves your riad — is the real reason to pre-book at Essaouira rather than anywhere with a busy rank.
