The drive & arrival tips
The drive rolls west through argan country and flat-topped hills to the coast, a steady 2h45–3h15 depending on stops. The road is good the whole way, and the final approach along the Atlantic into Essaouira is one of the nicer arrivals in Morocco.
Your driver meets you in the Menara arrivals hall and, at Essaouira, drops you at the nearest medina gate — usually Bab Marrakech or Bab Doukkala — a short flat walk to most riads. The alternative, a Marrakech taxi to the bus station and then a Supratours coach, adds a change and a schedule you have to catch.
