Walk the Blue Medina
FREEThe entire medina is painted in shades of blue — from powder blue to deep indigo — and walking its lanes is free, endlessly photogenic, and the reason everyone comes to Chefchaouen. The blue-washing tradition is only about 80 years old (introduced by Jewish refugees in the 1930s) but has made this one of the most photographed towns on Earth. Every lane, doorway, staircase, and wall is a photo opportunity. The medina is small (15 minutes across) but you'll spend hours exploring because every turn reveals a new composition.
Ras el-Ma Waterfall
FREEThe Ras el-Ma (Head of Water) spring and small waterfall on the eastern edge of the medina is free and peaceful. Mountain water cascades into stone channels where local women traditionally wash clothes (a scene unchanged for centuries). The area above the waterfall has shaded spots to sit and enjoy the cool mountain air. Follow the water channel uphill for views back over the blue rooftops. Spanish Mosque Viewpoint
