While much of Europe is dark and cold, Agadir keeps delivering: December afternoons hold around 22C, the sea sits near 19C, and roughly seven hours of daily sun light up a wide, sheltered beach. This is Morocco's most dependable winter-sun city, and December is prime time for it, quieter and often better value than the February half-term peak. This single-month guide covers the real weather, sea and pool truth, golf and thalasso, prices, and where to go on a mild-weather day. For the year-round picture see the best time to visit Agadir guide and the national Morocco in December overview.

Agadir's south-facing bay and semi-arid climate keep December mild and bright when most of Europe is not. Daytime highs average around 22C, with roughly seven hours of sun and long stretches of clear sky, so you can comfortably sit out on the beach or promenade through the middle of the day. Unlike inland Marrakech, the swing between day and night is gentle: overnight lows sit around 9C, so evenings are cool rather than cold and a light jacket is enough. This mildness, plus the sheer reliability of the sun, is exactly why charter flights fill through the winter.
Rain is modest even in what is one of the wetter months. Expect around 30-40mm spread over roughly five days, usually as short showers, with the great majority of December days dry. The one honest caveat is the sea: at about 19C it is too cool for most people to swim comfortably for long, which shapes how you spend the trip. December in Agadir is a sunbathing, walking and sightseeing month more than a swimming one.
| Period | Avg high C | Avg low C | Sea temp C | Sun hrs/day |

| Mid Dec (11-20) | 22 | 9 | 19 | 7 |
| Late Dec (21-31) | 21 | 9 | 19 | 6-7 |

The single most useful thing to understand about December in Agadir is the water. Air temperatures of 22C sound swim-friendly, but the Atlantic here holds around 19C in December, which most northern Europeans find bracing for anything beyond a quick dip. Hardy swimmers and surfers in wetsuits are fine; families hoping for hours in the sea usually are not. Plan accordingly and the trip works beautifully; expect Mediterranean-summer sea and you will be caught out.
The practical answer is the pool, and specifically a heated one. Many of Agadir's resort hotels heat at least one pool through winter, but not all do, and an unheated pool in December is barely warmer than the sea. If pool time matters, confirm in writing that the hotel heats its pool in December before booking; it is the difference between a relaxing sun holiday and shivering poolside. Our Agadir family resorts guide flags which kinds of properties heat their water.
December is arguably Agadir's best month for the two things it is quietly famous for beyond the beach: golf and thalassotherapy. The mild, dry, sunny weather is close to ideal for golf, with none of the summer heat, and Agadir's cluster of courses draws winter golf-break traffic through the season. Green fees vary widely by course and package, so build a golf trip around a hotel-and-golf deal and book tee times ahead over the Christmas weeks. See our Agadir golf courses guide for the layout of the options.
Thalassotherapy, seawater-based spa treatment, is an Agadir speciality and a natural fit for a cool-sea winter break: you get the wellness of the sea without needing to swim in it. December's quieter first weeks are a good time to book multi-day thalasso programmes, and the warm indoor pools and hammams are exactly what a cool evening calls for. The Agadir thalassotherapy and spa guide covers what the centres offer. Between golf, spa, the long promenade and the marina, December fills easily without ever needing the sea.
| Activity | December suitability | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sunbathing on the beach | Very good | Warm, sheltered, all-day sun |
| Sea swimming | Poor-fair | ~19C; quick dips only for most |
| Heated pool | Good | Only if the hotel heats it |
| Golf | Excellent | Mild and dry; book tee times |
| Thalasso and spa | Excellent | Ideal cool-season wellness |
| Surfing (Taghazout) | Excellent | Biggest winter swell up the coast |
December is a tale of two price seasons. From the 1st to around the 19th, Agadir is in a genuine value window: the weather is at its winter best, but the big charter surge has not yet hit, so resort rooms and packages are moderate and the beach and promenade are pleasantly uncrowded. For a warm, cheap sun escape, these first three weeks are one of the smartest bookings on the Moroccan calendar.
Then the Christmas and New Year holidays arrive and demand jumps. Agadir is a core European winter-sun destination, so the festive fortnight fills with families and couples escaping the cold, and prices rise accordingly, with New Year's Eve the peak. If your dates are fixed to the school holidays, book well ahead; if they are flexible, the early-December weeks give you the same weather for less. For a full breakdown of what things cost, see the Agadir prices and costs guide.
| Window | Crowds | Prices | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-19 December | Light | Moderate, good value | Value winter-sun break |
| 20 Dec-2 Jan | Busy | High, peak at NYE | Festive holiday, book ahead |
| Vs February half-term | Similar peak | Comparable high | Alternative winter-sun window |
| Vs summer (Jul-Aug) | Quieter than summer | Lower than midsummer | Sun without the sea warmth |
December's gentle temperatures make it a fine month for the day trips that can be punishing in summer heat. Paradise Valley, the palm-and-pool gorge in the foothills about an hour inland, is comfortable to walk in December, though the natural pools are cold and rock-jumping is a summer activity; come for the scenery and the drive rather than a swim. The walled city of Taroudant, sometimes called 'little Marrakech', is an easy and rewarding day out in mild weather, with its ramparts and souks far more pleasant to explore at 22C than at a summer 38C.
Further options open up with the cool weather: the Souss-Massa national park for birdlife, the argan country and cooperatives inland, and Imouzzer's waterfalls when they run. Marrakech is a long but feasible day trip for the determined, roughly three hours each way, though an overnight makes more sense. Note that December daylight is short at around 10.5 hours, so start day trips early to make the most of the warm midday and be back before the temperature drops after 4:30pm. For the walled-city trip specifically, see our Taroudant day trip from Agadir guide.
Packing for Agadir in December is easier than for inland Morocco because the nights are mild, but the cool sea and fresh evenings still catch people out. You are dressing for warm, sunny days and cool, breezy evenings, with sun protection a year-round essential given how many sunny days the city gets.
Yes, for a winter-sun break. December highs average around 22C with roughly seven hours of sun a day and mild 9C nights, making Agadir one of Europe's closest reliable warm-and-sunny beaches in winter. The one catch is the sea, at about 19C, which is cool for long swims. Come for warm, sunny days of sunbathing, walking and sightseeing rather than for extended sea swimming.
You can, but most visitors find it cool. The Atlantic sits around 19C in December, comfortable for a quick dip for the hardy and fine for surfers in wetsuits, but too chilly for most people to swim in for long. If you want proper water time, choose a hotel that heats its pool in winter, and confirm the heating in writing before booking, as not all resorts heat their pools.
Not much. December is one of the wetter months in a very dry city, but that still means only around 30-40mm of rain over roughly five days, usually as short showers. The large majority of December days are dry and sunny, so while a light waterproof is worth packing, rain is unlikely to disrupt a trip.
It is one of the best months for a winter-sun holiday. The weather is warm, dry and sunny, and the first three weeks offer genuine value before the Christmas surge. It is especially good for golf and thalassotherapy spa breaks, which suit the mild, dry conditions. The main trade-off is a cool sea, so it favours sunbathers and sightseers over swimmers.
Busy. Agadir is a core European winter-sun destination, so the fortnight from around 20 December to 2 January fills with families and couples escaping the cold, and prices rise to their winter peak, highest on New Year's Eve. Book well ahead if your dates are fixed to the school holidays. For the same weather at lower prices and with fewer crowds, target the first three weeks of December instead.
Plenty. December's mild, dry weather is ideal for golf and for seawater thalassotherapy spa programmes, both Agadir specialities. The marina, Souk El Had and the Oufella cable car all run year-round, and the cooler weather makes inland day trips to Paradise Valley and the walled city of Taroudant far more pleasant than in summer heat. Up the coast, Taghazout has the biggest surf swell of the year.
Warm-day, cool-evening clothing. Bring beachwear and strong sun protection for the sunny daytime, plus a light jacket or jumper for the roughly 9C evenings. Add a rash vest or wetsuit if you plan to swim or surf in the cool sea, comfortable shoes for the promenade and day trips, and a warmer layer for cooler inland excursions. A light waterproof covers the occasional shower.
