Marinid Tombs (Merenid Tombs)
المقابر المرينية
Best overall panorama — widest field of view, free to access
The ruined 14th-century Marinid necropolis sits on a ridge directly north of the medina, and its terrace gives an unobstructed arc from the minarets of the Qarawiyyin all the way to the hills beyond Fes el-Jdid. There are no fences or entry fees, and the site is always open. Walk up through the Andalusian quarter or take a petit taxi to the top of Rue Tala'a Sghira and follow the ridge path — the climb takes about 20 minutes on foot from Bab Guissa. Morning light falls on the medina from the east, so arriving just after sunrise means the terrace is warm, quiet and nearly empty. Come back at dusk for the call to prayer echoing off the valley.
Logistics
