About Merzouga
Merzouga is a small Saharan village on the edge of Erg Chebbi, a 50-kilometer stretch of golden sand dunes reaching up to 150 meters high. It's the most accessible and dramatic desert landscape in Morocco, offering the quintessential Saharan experience: camel treks at sunset, overnight camps under impossibly star-filled skies, sandboarding down massive dunes, and 4x4 adventures across the hammada.
The region is home to Gnaoua communities whose music echoes through the desert nights, and the nearby Khamlia village offers authentic cultural experiences. After rain (rare but magical), Dayet Srji lake appears at the foot of the dunes, attracting flamingos.
