Marrakech
Technically treated; most visitors use bottled
Marrakech municipal water is chlorinated and meets Moroccan national standards, but the old lead and clay pipe networks in the medina mean the water can pick up sediment and taste noticeably of chlorine. Upset stomachs in medina riads are often blamed on rich Moroccan food, but variable water quality plays a role. Most locals in the medina drink filtered or bottled water at home. In modern hotels and riads in Guéliz, tap water quality is generally better — but the safe default is still bottled.
