Kasbah Oufella at dawn
Start at the top. The hill-fort of Kasbah Oufella sits 236 metres above the bay and the walk up takes around 20 minutes on a well-maintained path from the signed entrance near the port road. Most package tourists never make it up here, so you will often have the ruins — and the panoramic view stretching from the Atlas foothills to the Atlantic — almost to yourself. The original kasbah was largely destroyed in the 1960 earthquake; what you see today is a rebuilt perimeter wall with the famous "God, King, Country" inscription in Arabic mosaic. Arrive before the haze builds and the light is exceptional for photography.
Tip: Entry is free. Go before 9 am to beat midday heat and haze.
