Morning (08:00–11:30)
Place Hassan II & the medina entrance
Start at Place Hassan II — a wide, palm-lined square flanked by the Royal Palace on one side and the medina gate on the other. It is quieter before 09:00 than at any other point in the day. Walk through Bab Rouah into the medina and follow Rue Terrafin north, where whitewashed walls rise two and three storeys and wrought-iron balconies overflow with geraniums — the Andalusian stamp that sets Tetouan apart from every other Moroccan medina. Stop at any msemen stand for breakfast: freshly griddle-fried flatbread with amlou (argan-almond paste) costs around 5–8 MAD and is a northern speciality you rarely see done this well further south.
- Aim to arrive at Bab Rouah before 09:00 for quieter alleys
- No formal entrance fee for the medina
- Women: a loose scarf is appreciated but not obligatory
