Kasbah des Oudayas
Open daily, ~09:00–18:00 (garden). Entry to gardens ~10 MAD.
Built by the Almohads in the 12th century on the headland where the Bou Regreg meets the Atlantic, the Kasbah is Rabat's most immediately beautiful place. The gate — Bab Oudayas — is one of the finest examples of Almohad stone carving in existence. Inside, the alleys are blue and white in the Andalusian style, flowers cascade from every doorway, and the Andalusian garden at the centre is quiet even in high season. Walk to the ocean platform at the western edge for the view over the estuary to Salé. Go at 16:00–17:30 when the light is warm and the stone glows orange.
