Free Beaches in Morocco Beyond Agadir

The vast majority of Morocco's beaches are free public spaces — there is no state entry charge at Essaouira, Oualidia, Mirleft, Sidi Ifni, or Legzira. The cost you sometimes encounter is for sunbed and parasol hire from private beach clubs, which is entirely optional. Agadir's beach itself is also free; what you pay for there are the hotel or resort amenities behind it. The rule of thumb: if you bring your own towel and walk past the sunbed operators, you pay nothing.

Essaouira, Mirleft, Sidi Ifni, and Legzira have no official charges and minimal beach-club infrastructure, so you can settle anywhere without any pressure to hire a sunbed. Both have budget guesthouses from around 100–200 MAD per night (indicative), free beaches, and cheap local cafes serving harira and msemen for under 30 MAD. Getting there requires a bus to Tiznit or Agadir then a grand taxi, which adds a little complexity but keeps the cost very low. Essaouira is slightly pricier (more tourism infrastructure) but still far cheaper than Agadir's resort strip.

Oualidia sits on a quiet stretch between El Jadida and Safi — not on a major bus route. The budget option is a CTM bus to El Jadida (from Casablanca: ~50 MAD, from Marrakech: ~100 MAD) then a shared grand taxi south to Oualidia for roughly 30–40 MAD. Expect the journey from Marrakech to take five to six hours by public transport. A private day trip from Casablanca or Marrakech cuts that to a comfortable drive and is the practical choice for most visitors who want to spend real time at the lagoon.

Wild camping on Moroccan beaches is technically not permitted but is widely tolerated in remote southern areas around Mirleft and south of Sidi Ifni. If you camp, pick up all rubbish, stay back from the high-tide line, and keep a low profile. Several surf camps and guesthouses in Mirleft allow tent pitching in their garden for around 40–60 MAD per night (indicative), which gives you access to toilets and showers. Organised coastal campsites with proper facilities are rare outside Agadir.

The remaining rock arch at Legzira is one of Morocco's most spectacular coastal sights and is almost completely uncrowded because the access road is unpaved and the descent to the beach is steep and rough. Arriving by grand taxi from Sidi Ifni costs around 15–20 MAD and takes 15 minutes. A hire car or private driver makes the logistics far simpler. Go at sunset — the terracotta arches turn extraordinary shades of amber.
