Essaouira Beach (Plage d'Essaouira)
Atlantic coast, 175 km west of Marrakech
Three kilometres of open sand backed by the medina ramparts. The trade winds that make Essaouira a world-class kite-surf destination also mean the beach is rarely crowded near the water — most package tourists keep to the sheltered parts of town. Arrive before 10 am or after 4 pm for the best light and a peaceful stretch of sand. Sunbed hire from beach operators runs around 20–30 MAD (indicative) if you want one, but there is no obligation.
Entry
Completely free — no entry charge, no compulsory sunbed hire
Getting There
CTM or Supratours bus from Marrakech: ~80–100 MAD one-way (about 3 hrs). Shared grand taxi from Marrakech Bab Doukkala: ~120 MAD pp.
Best for: Wind sports, photography, cool summers
