Imlil sits at 1,740 metres in the High Atlas, roughly 90 minutes south of Marrakech, and it is already well-known as the trailhead for Jebel Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. What gets less attention is the mountain biking. The same mule tracks and stony switchbacks that trekkers walk are excellent MTB terrain — loose in places, exposed in others, and spectacularly scenic throughout.
The rides are not a polished trail centre with berms and flow tracks. They are proper mountain paths shared with mule trains and village traffic, which gives them a character you will not find in a bike park. You gain altitude quickly, the air thins noticeably above 2,000 m, and a good mechanical on a remote ridge means a long push — so preparation matters. But for a rider who wants scenery and genuine High Atlas atmosphere rather than groomed singletrack, Imlil delivers both.
