Marrakech
Rahba Kedima (Spice Square) & Mellah Market
Rahba Kedima sits just off the main Jemaa el-Fna artery and is the city's oldest spice market. Wooden stalls overflow with cumin, ginger, cinnamon quills, dried rose petals and cones of ras el hanout. A few metres away, the Mellah's covered food market is where Marrakchi families actually shop: fresh herbs by the bunch, olives from huge earthenware vats, fresh cheeses, and live chickens if that is your thing.
Best for
- Spice blends & saffron
- Olives & preserved lemons
- Dried fruit & nuts
- Argan oil direct from cooperatives
Insider tip
Arrive before 9 am to shop alongside locals before tour groups descend. The Mellah market closes early afternoon on Fridays.
