Day 1
Get your bearings — medina lanes & Jemaa el-Fna
Morning
Check into your riad before 9 am bags-drop (most riads hold luggage warmly if you arrive early). Walk the northern medina around Mouassine: the fountain, the perfume alley and the roof terraces above the souks are gorgeous before the midday heat and crowds arrive.
Afternoon
Head through the souks toward Jemaa el-Fna. The square feels overwhelming at first — stay on the outer edge, keep moving with purpose and it settles quickly. Stop at Café de France or any café terrace on the south side for tea and a view down over the performers and smoke.
Evening
Eat early. The food stalls at Jemaa el-Fna are busiest and best between 7–9 pm; grab a number at a stall for harira, merguez or a full tagine (indicative: 40–70 MAD, about $4–7). The walk back through the medina after dark is lively but stay on the main lit lanes.
