Day 1
Medina Deep Dive — Djemaa el-Fna to the Souks
Morning
Arrive early enough to walk Djemaa el-Fna before the heat builds. The square is quieter before 10 am — orange-juice carts are already running, but the acrobat circles and storytellers have not yet gathered. Head north into the souks: the spice market (Rahba Kedima) is the logical first stop, then deeper into the leather and carpet lanes of Souk Sebbaghine and Souk des Tanneurs.
Afternoon
After lunch (try a bowl of harira and a msemen flatbread at a corner café near Place des Epices), walk to the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs — both are within ten minutes of each other on foot. The tombs are small but the carved marble and cedarwood ceiling of the main chamber are genuinely extraordinary.
Evening
Return to Djemaa el-Fna for sunset. The square transforms around 6 pm: food stalls light up, musicians start, and the smoke from the grills hangs in the evening air. Pick a rooftop café to watch it all from above, then pick your way through the stalls for dinner.
