Best Beaches for Families in Morocco

Agadir is the easy answer for families. The bay faces south-west and a natural headland to the north cuts the Atlantic swell — you get barely a ripple on most days. The sand is firm, wide and clean, and the beachside promenade means lunch or an ice cream is never more than a two-minute walk away. Water temperature climbs to 26 °C by August, which toddlers adore. The trade-off: it is also Morocco's most package-resort beach, so expect company in July and August.

There are no lifeguards — the lagoon is so safe they are barely needed — but do check the tide chart because a big spring tide brings a fast current through the channel. Basic toilets and cold showers exist; facilities are otherwise minimal, which is part of the charm.

Toddlers can paddle comfortably in July and August, though the Atlantic here is cooler than Agadir. Worth combining with a morning in the medina before the midday heat.

The Moroccan crowd is local and family-focused, and the seafront cafés are genuinely good. Not suitable for toddlers on all days, so check the weather before you go. Best paired with the extraordinary Portuguese Cistern at El Jadida, about 20 minutes away.

Legzira is on this list because it looks unmissable in every photo — and it is genuinely stunning. But be honest with yourself: young children and non-swimmers should stay at the waterline or not swim at all. The beach faces directly onto the open Atlantic, rip currents form around the rock arches, and there are no lifeguards. Strong winds are common. For teenagers who are capable swimmers and want to experience one of Morocco's most dramatic coastal landscapes, Legzira is unforgettable. Just build in time for the 3-hour drive from Agadir.

Essaouira deserves its place on any Morocco itinerary — the blue-and-white medina, the ramparts, the seafood grills are all wonderful. But the beach is a kitesurf zone for a reason: the Alizé wind blows hard from the north almost every afternoon, April through September, and the sea state reflects that. Toddlers get sandblasted; swimming is not advisable for non-surfers. Visit for lunch and the town, then plan your beach time elsewhere.
