Jbel Toubkal Summit
Imlil → Toubkal Refuge → Summit
Distance
~22 km return
Duration
2 days (1 night at refuge)
Difficulty
Strenuous
The highest peak in North Africa and the one most travellers mean when they talk about "doing Toubkal." The standard route starts at Imlil (1,740 m), climbs to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m) on day one, then pushes for the rocky summit early on day two. There is no technical climbing, but the scree slopes above the refuge demand good fitness and solid footwear. On a clear morning the summit view stretches from the Sahara to the Atlantic coast.
- Book the Toubkal Refuge (CAF) in advance April–October
- Start summit push by 06:00 to beat cloud build-up
- A licensed mountain guide is strongly recommended
