Imlil
1,740 m · 60 km from Marrakech (~1.5 hrs)
Imlil is the most visited village in the High Atlas and with good reason: it sits at the foot of North Africa's highest peak, has mule tracks threading between stone houses, and wears its tourism lightly. The main street has guesthouses, a handful of cafés, a Kasbah du Toubkal perched above, and guides offering everything from day hikes to multi-day traverses. Even if you never tie a boot, the walk up through walnut orchards to the village of Aroumd takes around 45 minutes and rewards with broader views. Market day (Sundays) in the nearby village of Asni, 17 km downhill, is worth timing a visit around.
