Standard Camp
The communal haima with shared facilities
from ~350–600 MAD / $35–60 pp per night
Most standard camps sit within a 20-minute camel ride of the village of Merzouga, in the lower folds of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Accommodation is in traditional haima (Berber wool tents) with foam mattresses, blankets and a shared toilet-and-cold-shower block. Lighting is usually a single battery-powered bulb, and phone signal is non-existent — which is, for many travellers, half the point. Dinner is a shared tajine or couscous eaten communally with other guests, followed by drumming and mint tea around the fire. Mornings bring a camel ride back for sunrise and a simple breakfast of msemen flatbread and argan oil.
