About This Dish
Morocco is one of the world's great citrus producers, and fresh orange juice is available everywhere for astonishingly low prices — often just from 5 MAD per glass. Orange juice vendors with their towering pyramids of bright fruit are iconic figures in Moroccan cities, especially in Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakech where dozens of stalls compete for customers. The juice is squeezed to order and served without water, ice, or added sugar. Moroccan oranges are naturally very sweet, producing juice that is liquid sunshine. It is customarily drunk at breakfast and as a refreshing street drink.
